The Samuel B. & Marian K. Freedman Digital Library, Language Learning, and Multimedia Services Center offers such an individual a unique opportunity to manage and operate a state-of-the-art center dedicated to re-visioning learning on campus by developing technological and pedagogical resources that support the study and teaching of language. The Language Learning Manager reports to the Managing Librarian and is charged with co-managing the Freedman Center, as well as developing and providing a range of services related to language learning support for faculty, students, and staff and the extended Case Western Reserve University language learning community. The Language Learning Manager is responsible for a variety of managerial functions, including marketing the Freedman Center and managing its day-to-day activities (overseeing the purchase, scheduling, delivery, setup, troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment, supervising student staff, managing the budget, and providing training; as well as assisting with development of the Freedman Center operations, which includes writing, editing, and maintaining policies and procedures as well as discovering and deploying management software tools ). The Language Learning Manager works closely with faculty, staff and students to research, recommend, implement, and maintain advanced instructional and communication technologies to support language learning at Case Western Reserve University and to serve as exemplars for a powerful learning environment. The Language Learning Manager will be a person who is technically prepared, linguistically informed, and pedagogically inventive. REQUIREMENTS: Experience -- Four years work-related experience in language learning technologies and pedagogy preferred. Experience with networked instructional technology applications and application deployment experience in higher education preferred. Hands-on managerial experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Customer Service experience highly preferred. Education/Licensing -- Bachelor$E2s degree required. Master's degree in related field or equivalent working experience and training preferred. Essential Skills -- Speaking, writing and pedagogical familiarity with several languages preferred. Excellent communication skills and ability to converse and correspond with faculty, staff and students in academic and professional environments. Demonstrated ability to solicit input, select, implement, and train faculty, students, and staff in an educational or instructional technology application. Demonstrated organizational and management skills. Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and procedural documentation. Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Ability to initiate and adapt to change. Technical Skills -- Demonstrated ability to research, recommend, initiate, and deploy innovative applications for language learning preferred. Software programming, system security, networking and server maintenance skills preferred. Familiarity with online course management systems, wiki, blog, podcast, videoconferencing desirable. Experience with website and web-enabled service applications preferred. Knowledge of Macintosh, Windows and server operating systems preferred. Troubleshooting skills preferred.
