There's an interesting and challenging position opening up providing technical support for faculty, staff, and students in this large intensive English program (ESL). CELOP is a friendly and exciting place with students from 50 countries. This position (IS/IT, Grade 53) offers many opportunities for skill expansion and working on the cutting edge of educational technology in support of language learning (CALL). In addition to providing support, primarily to Mac clients, the Technical Coordinator maintains several file, database (FileMaker), and lab authentication/ document servers (all Mac OS X), manages security and backups for faculty and staff, assists faculty and students using the computer language labs and smart classrooms, helps maintain a large website using a variety of technologies, researches hardware, software, and A/ V equipment for purchase, and generally provides support for the implementation of technology program-wide. The Technical Coordinator should be able to learn new technologies on his or her own, as needed, work independently, keep track of support and project work with little supervision, and work closely with ESL students, teachers, and program staff. While no teaching experience is required, experience being a language learner and living abroad would be helpful. For the complete job description, requirements, and benefits associated with this position, please refer to Boston University's official position posting. (Posting in late June.) http://www.bu.edu/hr/employment/jobs/jobs.shtml Please feel free to contact me directly with specific questions about the position. -John ___________________________________________ John de Szendeffy Director of Educational Technology Center for English Language and Orientation Programs Boston University 890 Commonwealth Ave., 2nd floor Boston, MA 02215 USA ph 617.353.7957 http://www.bu.edu/celop http://people.bu.edu/johndesz "A Practical Guide to Using Computers in Language Teaching" http://www.press.umich.edu/titleDetailDesc.do?id=97662 "For Here or to Go: An ESL Reader" http://www.press.umich.edu:80/ titleDetailDesc.do?id=8629 --------------------------- CELOP is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation.
