Ed Dear IALLT 2007 registrants (and soon-to-be registrants), http://ase.tufts.edu/iallt/ Paese che vai, usanza che trovi. And to help you all do so, I m enclosing just a few notes about eating well at IALLT 2007: As you know, all conference-day lunches, conference breaks, the conference banquet and the wine and cheese reception are included in the IALLT 07 registration fee. Also, if you are staying in the dorms, at the Hawthorn Inn, or at the AmeriSuites Hotel, full, hearty breakfasts are included free as well. However, if you still feel the urge to spend money on food while you re here, I thought I d let you know about some of my personal favorites that are near Tufts and the Conference. These are local Somerville and Cambridge restaurants that you shouldn t leave the area without trying. Virtually across the street from your dorm, at Powderhouse Square, is a very different kind of Mexican Restaurant. <<Tu y Yo>> As its website notes: [Tu y Yo makes] home-cooked meals in a home-like environment. From this came the Mexican fonda. A place where people could get typical dishes of the region prepared using family$A0recipes. The menu from Tu Y Yo is composed of family recipes spanning over 100 years. From homemade salsas to typical meat sauces, each item is freshly made and 100% Mexican. We take pride in everything we prepare and thank you for taking the time to experience our$A0culture. No nachos or burritos at Tu y Yo. Only real, home-style Mexican food. Try some of these dishes: Carmar$F3n con Pulpo (Dolores T. de Mitates 1928) $17.95 Shrimp and octopus in a garlic mojillo sauce with slices of pasilla pepper's. Calamares Enjitomatados $17.95 Calamari saut$E9ed with onions, garlic, tomatoes, spices and jalape$F1o peppers. Salm$F3n Criolla (Estela G$F3mez de Cuervo1940) $17.95 Fresh pan fried Atlantic salmon in a creamy guajillo sauce accompanied with chipotle-potato and shrimp cakes. Ancas de Rana en Mole Verde $17.95 Frog legs in green mole made with pumpkin seeds, poblano peppers, tomatillos, amaranth & spices. Chile Relleno de Camar$F3n (Juan Jos$E9 Sandoval Guzman 2003) $17.95 Poblano pepper stuffed with shrimp, goat cheese and black olives drizzled in a red bell pepper sauce. Rollos de pescado relleno de mariscos $17.95 Marinated Boneless tilapia stuffed with chunks of crab, octopus, shrimp, amaranth and black olives. Served over a traditional red sauce from Veracruz, M$E9xico Look at the rest of Tu Y Yo s menu here: http://tuyyomexicanfonda.com/ A further walk or bus ride to Mass Ave near Davis Sq, will bring you to the world-famous <<Elephant Walk>> Cambodian and French restaurant. My mouth is watering just thinking about their meals. http://elephantwalk.com/CAMBRIDGE/index.htm A local restaurant guide notes: The Elephant Walk has been serving award-winning Cambodian and French Cuisine to happy diners in Greater Boston since 1991. Perennially rated one of Boston's Most Popular Restaurants in the Zagat Survey, right out of the blocks in 1992 The Elephant Walk was recognized by Esquire as one of America's Best New Restaurants. Together The Elephant Walk has won 7 Boston Magazine "Best of Boston" awards, including induction into the "Best of Boston Hall of Fame." These are just two of the hundreds of great restaurants you ll find in the Somerville, Cambridge and Boston area, but they are two of my personal favorites. If you want more suggestions, let me know and I ll go on (for days &.) Register soon! http://ase.tufts.edu/iallt/ (I have no financial interest in these restaurants. I wish I did. And they have not paid to advertise here &: I just know good food.) . And don t come to Boston without making sure to have a meal at one of the Legal Seafood locations: http://www.legalseafoods.com/index.cfm?cd=LOCATION&pid=11279&cdid=11833 They tell me it s the best fish in New England (but I don t eat fish, so I ll take their word for it.) Se you all shortly, Ed And, if you can get to the Boston s North End for some great bakery items and pastries, remember Clemenza s advice: Leave the gun. Take the cannoli. =========================================== Edmund N.
