Hello- We had 9 participants join the Mascoma Chapter's Duck Trip along the CT River today. Lots of birds (and other birders) and great weather made for an enjoyable outing. We followed Rt 12 from Lebanon to Charlestown, over to Herrick's Cove and took Rt 5 north back to Lebanon. We saw a total of 36 species with the highlight being: A Greater White-fronted Goose among many Canada Geese in a cornfield along Rt 5 in Springfield, Vt. Additional species: Great Blue Heron Canada Goose Wood Duck Mallard American Black Duck Northern Pintail Green-winged Teal Ring-necked Duck Common Goldeneye Hooded Merganser Common Merganser Turkey Vultures (one seen on a deer carcass) Red-tailed Hawk Bald Eagle, immature Turkey Killdeer Ring-billed Gull Rock Dove Mourning Dove Belted Kingfisher Downy Woodpecker Blue Jay American Crow Horned Lark Tree Swallow Black-capped Chickadee White-breasted Nuthatch American Robin Northern Mockingbird Northern Cardinal Song Sparrow Red-winged Blackbird Common Grackle American Goldfinch Snowbunting (possible) Thanks to everyone who joined us today!
