*Vermont *Statewide 1.8.07 *VT0403.06 This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for January 8, 2007 covering the period January 1 - 7, 2007. Two, possibly three, SHORT-EARED OWLS were calling and flying over the fields at Dead Creek on 12/31. A BELTED KINGFISHER was seen in Hartland on 1/5 and 1/7 and at Shelburne Bay on 1/6. A second sighting within a month of a rare THREE-TOED WOODPECKER at Moose Bog occurred on 1/7. A NORTHERN FLICKER was seen in Bennington on 1/6. A CAROLINA WREN has been present throughout the week in Woodstock and one was seen at an East Dorset feeder on 1/2 and a Norwich feeder on 1/6. There have been several EASTERN BLUEBIRD sightings, with individuals actually singing in Monkton on 1/7. A HERMIT THRUSH was spotted in Burlington on 1/6. A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was observed in Woodstock on 1/3 and 1/4.
