>Subject: Headset A/V with Macs

Friends,
We are looking at new machines for our Mac Classroom which also
serves as walk-in lab space. We'd like to have headsets with volume
controls and microphone on/off controls. We also want to be able to
pass through the audio, so a student can hear him/herself speaking in
the headset. This is all pretty standard.
But since the Mac will not pass audio that comes in the line-in port
directly back out the headphones, we have to buy an external mixer
and audio amp. These need to be rugged, electronically matched and
difficult to meddle with. In principle a USB headset/mic solution
would work, if it does all we need.
Does anyone have a good solution to this scenario?
