Thanks to Mark and JBS for your answers. I sent this message to the list on the 18th. Apparently, I need to change the email account I'm using for this list since it took 10 days for the message to get delivered. I ended up asking the question on the AppleScript Studio list and found out, courtesy of Paul Berkowitz, that "user name" isn't a valid parameter to "do shell script" in 10.3.9, which is what I'm running.
