SHSU has yet to receive an update on the software. We are still using the SC2000LL with no updates in hardware or software. Periodically, I have contacted TSI about updates. Updates were promised, but to my knowledge none have ever been installed. Also, as early as Wed 01/20/2004, I began calling TSI asking for information on the lab warranty. I still have not received any warranty information as of this date, but I have gotten several promises that the information will be sent immediately. Without the warranty information from TSI, it is impossible to purchase an extended warranty. Basically, this leaves SHSU without support for the lab's software and much of its hardware. We have received no "easy to use printed and digital training materials and manuals" other than those that came with the install. The last time I even heard from TSI was in November 2004, when Owen Savage stopped by my office to pick up the nonfunctioning Robotel headsets. When I did ask about continuing in-service, the following is the reply I received from TSI: Message form TSI follows: From: Eric Schwartz [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Thursday, August 05, 2004 10:32 AM To: [log in to unmask]; [log in to unmask]; [log in to unmask] Subject: RE: Training Lilly, I have been working with Sean on the training issue. Just to clarify, there have been two training sessions done by a factory person, Jerry Sullivan; since the system was put in. He was flown in twice from Montreal Canada to do the training. We have provided additional training on individual basis to instructors. We have attempted to do training on other occasions and as you said they were not able to complete the training and if memory serves me right one was because they could not get the software to work on the system and one was a headset issues. Please correct me if I am wrong. As of this date TSI has provided all support services at no charge to the University, we have worked with the network personnel in order to make the software work on a tighter security system than the software was designed to work on. We have replaced cables, headsets, interfaces, and reconfigured the system and have made every attempt to make sure the system was up and working. The cost of the training is for the trainer, who again is from Robotel, to come in and do training, the normal cost for factory training is 1200.00 for a 1 day training. We have asked for an received a discount for this training for the University. He is going to be in the area that week and will be able to do training on the 12th of August. We can again try to schedule the training when he is in the area if that would be more convenient for you. I will ask about doing some sort of internet training also that might be of assistance. Thank you for your patients and I apologize for any inconvenience. Eric Schwartz Teaching Systems Inc. Both are off the same interstate highway. The email from the LLTI ListServ email follows my signature line. We are looking to replace our hardware-based Esprit Language Lab this coming school year when we upgrade the computers in that lab. We are hoping to use a software language lab in place of our existing system. So far we've researched both the Genesis and ReLanPro systems. I did some research in the Archives and learned about the SANAKO Lab 300 and SANS Virtuoso/Soloist systems; I've already ordered the Digital Language Lab Solutions publication offered by IALLT. If anyone out there using any of these systems would like to share their experiences with me, either on the list or offlist, I would appreciate any insight you might have to offer. I'm a little concerned that one of the systems we are seriously considering, the ReLANPro by ASC, isn't even mentioned in the IALLT publication. I'm assuming that means it's too new to have made it through the evaluation process to get into the manual.
