The room comprises 21 PCs (20 student- and 1 teacher workstations) and the core language lab software is Sony Virtuoso and Soloist which is really working well for us, here at the LLC, Victoria University of Wellington (NZ). We have been shown the Sign language upgrade to Sony Soloist/Virtuoso using webcams and our deaf studies department has shown a deep interest in the demo. I am currently working on selecting what I am bidding for and therefore seeking your help as to : 1/ What hardware have you purchased for PC on top of the workstation and monitor (webcam, graphic card etc..) 2/ If other Sony, which lab (CMS) software works for you - If you are using Soloist/Virtuso does it work for you? And why briefly? 3/ Classroom ergonomics (layout - we need to accommodate other language as well - our current set up is a U shape with tables in the middle for group work away from the PCs), blank background (curtain? Panels what is easier to move and remove between/during the class / colour of background with the webcam, lights (on top of the student, in front of the PC, spotlight, halogene, etc..) Any other recommendations welcome, as well ! Thank you very much **************************** Edith Paillat Language Technology Specialist Language Learning Centre Victoria University of Wellington P.O.Box 600, Wellington New Zealand +64 4 463 5792 http://www.vuw.ac.nz/llc/about/projects.aspx
