I thought it might be a good idea to shamelessly self-promote the seminar while at the same time send my regards to everybody on the list! Hope to see y'all at the conference, Jorg ****** Audio and Video for the 21st Century Conducted by: Jorg Waltje, Greg Kessler, and Michael Heller Wednesday, 17 May 2006, 9:00am-12:00noon (Half Day Workshop) "I'd love to have my students use more audio and video, but can't think of ways to integrate it." "We'd love to enter the digital age, but do not have the money to upgrade to a turnkey-lab." "I wish someone would show me ways how to better engage my students." "How can I use technology to further integrate communicative strategies into my classes?" Does this sound familiar? Staying on top of things in the field of Language Technology often seems a daunting task. Geared towards faculty and laboratory support staff with little or no multimedia production experience, this hands-on workshop will focus on a variety of free (or very affordable) programs that are now available, waiting for creative language professionals to utilize them to their fullest potential. We will look at applications like Audacity, Skype, DL Recorder, Audio Portfolios, PodcastMaker, and a selection of other tools that will enable us and our students to effectively work on their listening and speaking skills -- alone, in tandem, and in conference calls -- and thus help them connect with a diverse world. Participants will learn general procedures and techniques relevant to all digital video and audio applications including how to appropriately record, edit, and compress media for Internet-delivery and integration into instructional materials like Hot Potatoes and Quia. Most applications we will be working with can be used on Macs, PCs, and in a Linux environment. ******* --------------------- Dr. Jorg Waltje Associate Professor Director LRC Ohio University Gordy Hall 17 D Athens, Ohio 45701 (USA) Ph: (740) 593-2748 Fax: (740) 593-0729 --------------------- *********************************************** LLTI is a service of IALLT, the International Association for Language Learning, and The Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning (http://consortium.dartmouth.edu).
