This technology specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining a variety of technologies used in teaching languages and humanities. These include multiple workstations in computer labs, 3 servers, and a variety of multimedia equipment. Incumbent participates in coordinating the student staff who help in the day-to-day operation of the center. The main duties of the position are: 1) assisting in the development of the center's web page; including scripting and programming for web-based software and utilities for Center and Center-related faculty projects; 2) assisting in training faculty, staff and students in new hardware and software including specialized audio/video/communications software, such as SONY's Virtuoso software 3) setting up and maintaining computer workstations and software; troubleshooting hardware and software problems; maintaining servers for the center and its instructional spaces. 4) providing assistance in all areas of the Center's services (supervising student staff, responding to general inquiries, scheduling and circulation of Center's resources, etc.). Required Qualifications 1) Minimum 12 months of work experience in maintaining computer workstations and troubleshooting hardware and software problems. 2) Experience in Microsoft Office applications and development of web pages and digital media. 3) Effective oral and written communication skills for interacting with faculty, staff and students. Preferred Qualifications 1) Bachelor's degree in computer science, educational technology, CALL, or related fields. 2) Experience in web/database integration for educational and research applications. 3) Experience in server operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Server 2003; Mac Server X). 4) Experience with multimedia software (e.g., Photoshop, Flash, Director). 5) Familiarity with computer and network security issues. 6) Knowledge of a foreign language and multilingual computing.
