Jansen" <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: pre-conference workshop at FLEAT 5 >To: [log in to unmask] Looking for something to do Saturday morning, August 6? How about registering for my FLEAT 5 pre-conference workshop "Curb Cuts in the Digital Language Lab"? It's workshop #52 at http://ce.byu.edu/cw/fleat5/2005/pre-conf.dhtm In the first hour of the workshop we'll discuss general accessibility issues, including research on the most common (and easiest to fix) accessibility errors and how they affect access for a variety of devices including handheld computers. In the last two hours we'll have a mix of demonstration and hands-on practice during which participants search for their institution's web accessibility policy (or adopt one on the fly), select one of their institution's web sites for testing, check pages on their chosen site using WAVE and Bobby (free online web accessibility checkers), and check them using Mozilla Firefox with Web Developer Extension and Opera Browser (also free). Time permitting, we'll look at how to activate Dreamweaver accessibility features and try a few easy techniques for fixing common accessibility errors. I presented a session on web accessibility at IALLT 2003 in Ann Arbor and several participants indicated they would like a longer preconference workshop on this topic at the next IALLT conference. I didn't collect any names at the time, so this is the only I way I know to contact potential attendees. Please let me know if you have any questions about what we're planning to do during the workshop. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Provo!
