I've had good luck with Bombay Electronics, though they don't carry the Daewoo anymore. (They have a web pages and also sell on eBay.) The (modified?) Philips DVD727 plays region 2 just fine. I don't know whether it will "lock down" on a region or not: To be safe, we only use it for region 2. I have heard that some "region free" players will lock down on a region just like the computers.
