More info can be found at http://www.radmind.org. Radmind allows you to refresh and update clients using an image on a MacOSX or Linux server. It's designed to use a minimum of bandwidth - comparing a text transcript of the hard drive with a text transcript of the server image, and transferring only those files which are required. It doesn't actually image (we use Carbon Copy Pro for that, http://www.bombich.com), but you can build onto a base installation. Bombich.com has some other MacOSX lab deployment ideas that may be worth looking into if you have a MacOSX server. We were looking for a solution that would work with a linux server.
