The College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate professor (tenure granted upon appointment) with expertise in African American Studies, discipline open. The position offers a joint appointment with the African American Studies Program and the College department appropriate for the candidatecs discipline. We are searching for an individual to help build the African American Studies Program through curricular development, campus leadership, and community outreach/recruitment. Yearly responsibilities include teaching at least two courses fulfilling requirements for the African American Studies minor; advising students; and in lieu of some teaching responsibilities, assisting with community outreach and promoting the Program on campus. In the first year, the successful candidate will also develop an introductory course for the Program in conjunction with the African American St udies Committee. It is expected that in the second year s/he will assume the role of Program Director. The following are the minimum requirements for consideration: Ph.D., at least 2 years of teaching beyond the Ph.D., an active research agenda relevant for African American Studies, and significant experience in outreach to and mentoring of students, especially those typically underrepresented on college campuses. Administrative background is also a plus.
