These unit are very sturdy, in fact some have been in use for over 20 years. One of the strong points of the MB quart is the cable with the DIN Plug. We made up an adapter box that the headset plugs into. The adapter box has a DIN jack and we soldered in two cables, one for the ear piece and one for the microphone. At the other end of the cable that was soldered onto the DIN jack we soldered on the minijacks that plug into the sound card. That is the best way to adapt the MB Quart headset, otherwise trying to remove the DIN Plug and connect two miniplugs will create problems. If you intend to use the headsets for computer applications, there is another problem. most likely the microphone cartridge is a dynamic type ( a magnet and moving coil) and the sound card is set up for an electrets microphone. To resolve this problem, we purchased electrets cartridges and modified the MRQuart Cartridge holder to accept the electrets cartridge. We have not had one failure with this set up. If you have access to a technical resource group, they should be able to make an adapter box and change the mic cartridge for not a lot of money. It seems to me we [paid about $1.00 for each cartridge. The DIN jack is about $4.00. -----Original Message----- From: Language Learning and Technology International Information Forum [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of LLTI-Editor Sent: Tuesday, June 15, 2004 12:10 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: #7548 MB Quart Headsets --- Forwarded Message from Carine Ullom <[log in to unmask]> --- >Date: Tue, 15 Jun 2004 13:27:30 -0400 >From: Carine Ullom <[log in to unmask]> >User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Netscape/7.1 (ax) >To: Language Learning and Technology International Information Forum <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: MB Quart Headsets >References: <[log in to unmask]> >In-Reply-To: <[log in to unmask]> Hello, I recently purchased 2 MB Quart headsets "for a song" from Ebay. These are the model that I believe was used in Tandberg systems at one time. They are apparently VERY sturdy and sell for $100 or more at retail. The reason these 2 were so cheap is because they have the old DIN pins on the end. I thought I recalled someone posting to the list not so long ago regarding re-wiring these and adding a stereo mini plug and a mic plug. Has anyone done that successfully? If so, I'd be grateful for some advice. If we can get a rock solid headset for $10 plus some student time putting on the correct plug, I'll be very happy.
