I like it pretty well. I have profited from the Unicode support, but I don't have personal experience with non-Roman character sets. Spell checking options are varied and fairly flexible. I don't know how many languages/dictionaries are available for spell check. Document formatting is great is some areas, good in most, and weak or missing in some things. One of the advantages is an active discussion list, in which the developers participate. And respond. Bug fixes reported to the list are sometimes corrected within a few days. Features supported by many comments from list members often appear in the next update, a month or two after the suggestion. Many of the people active on the list are using non-Roman character sets, and answer questions from new users about issues specific to a given language. Mellel is a young program, so it is evolving quickly. It is small, quick and inexpensive. Most features are well thought out, but in some cases, sufficiently different from a Word-user's expectations, that reading the manual is necessary. It's worth a look.
