I'm getting queries from our IT folks about how to make *computer* DVD drives region-free. Does anyone here have any info on which manufacturers' drives can get their firmware hacked? They've apparently found someething that works temporarily on one, but that's obviously not a good solution to have the teacher go into DOS, run this thing, to reset it every so many changes... We have Mac and Windows machines, and finding a solution for either would be helpful. I have heard about the possibility of throwing away the DVD preferences on the Mac, but everything I've ever read about DVDs and region-codes indicates that you can make only 5-6 switches before the *firmware* of the drive locks in the region. Any help would be most appreciated! Cheers, Margo Margo Burns Director of the Language Center St. Paul's School Concord, NH 03301 [log in to unmask] (603) 229-4665
