We always used to say capturing DV was primarily a bandwidth issue, not necessarily an issue of CPU speed. That's the primary reason why some people prefer SCSI over IDE (though the new 8MB buffer IDE drives are as fast as SCSI), and why you can use a 500 MHZ Pentium III to capture DV. The same was and is true for analog capture, for the most part (of course there are other things that could always be looked at).
