Dear Betty Warner: Do you know about the International Association for Language Learning Technology (IALLT)? The LLTI mailing list on which you put your posting is a service of IALLT. Many IALLT members work as consultants, and you will also find lab professionals (many reading this list) who offer advice in forums such as this, provided that your questions are not too vague, nor all-encompassing! As a start, you could check the IALLT Consulting Services web pages at <iallt.org> listed under IALLT Services and Resources in the left margin. You will find helpful suggestions to get you started. The list of IALLT member-consultants at the IALLT web site is by no means exhaustive. You will probably receive at least several responses to your posting, on and off the list, from people interested in consulting. Hands-down, however, one the very best resources of all is the upcoming IALLT 2003 conference, hosted by the University of Michigan, June 17-21. There you will find pre-conference workshops on selecting and/or planning and designing a lab facility, how to find the right solution to match the needs of language teachers and learners at your institution, and how to manage a state-of-the-art language center (or computer lab specially equipped for language studies). This is followed by three days of regular conference sessions covering everything from virtual language labs to emerging technologies for language learning, and lots of sessions showcasing innovative materials developed across the US and in Europe and Asia. Opportunities abound at IALLT 2003 for meeting and networking with people facing the same questions as you, in institutions near you and e-near you! Registration opens in just two weeks. Good luck with your lab planning. best, Bruce Parkhurst Coordinator, IALLT Consulting Services Chair, IALLT 2003 Program Committee ------------------------------------------- IALLT 2003: Connecting with a diverse world University of Michigan June 17-21, 2003 www.lsa.umich.edu/lrc/iallt/index.html Monika Dressler, IALLT 2003 Conference Host Ann Arbor, Michigan in mid-June is pleasant, relaxed, and a great place to connect with friends, colleagues, technology, teaching, and the latest innovations in our field.
