I was able to do it.... Assuming that you have a complete installation and your 2000 disk and your Office disk available... You want to enable your input systems first. Then you want to go to the Microsoft Office Language Settings and activate traditional and simplified Chinese. Open a blank document type in a few simplified characters, highlight them (better copy them first for comparison later) , go to the Tools Menu, select Languages, select Chinese Translation, and select the direction of the translation. If Word refuses and comes back with a "missing file" message, you need to pull out the Proofing Tools Disk and install it. After you have done this, the translator will work correctly. (I am not sure whether this disk is still available.... it carries the MS number "0899 Part No. X03-80953" This works for me. But I do not believe that this is what Microsoft intended (I know this makes me the eternal optimist!!!) . There must be an easier way. What makes the whole thing rather suspicious to me is the occasional popping up of a window concerning word breaks a file that is not installed and doesn't install from the suggested disk. Fortunately, this can be ignored. Looking forward to hear from somebody who has an easier solution! Otmar
