Appointment is for one year with renewal contingent on satisfactory performance, program/operational needs, and availability of funds. Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Description: The multimedia consultant will assist the Language Center in fulfillment of its mission to provide technological and instructional support to second language, culture, and literature teachers. The consultant will be in charge of the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of educational multimedia materials. The consultant will also provide consultation and assistance to educators on the development and planning of instructional materials. (60% development of multimedia CDs, GPT, and web courses; 30% faculty and staff consultation; 10% training/teaching/support) Responsibilities * Employ a number of multimedia authoring tools to develop and convert existing instructional and testing materials into a digital multi-platform format to be delivered over CD-ROM or the World Wide Web. * Develop, improve, and update computerized Graduate Proficiency Test (GPT) using Authorware or other authoring programs. * Generate and incorporate graphic images, animations, sound, text and video into consolidated and seamless multimedia instructional programs for second language, culture, and literature teaching. * Create presentation materials and interactive web forms based on program needs. * Design simple and effective instructional templates for curriculum and materials development and maintenance efforts. * Investigate, analyze, and recommend appropriate platforms and software to achieve multimedia development objectives. * Conduct presentations and workshops on multimedia development applications that include computer-assisted language learning (CALL), CD-ROMs, educational products and web-based instruction. * Apply principles of graphic design, animation, video design, and multimedia design to the task of generating instructional materials. Essential Qualifications: * A bachelor's degree, preferably in graphic design, computer science, information systems, educational technology, instructional systems, communications, or closely related area * Three (3) years of progressively more responsible experience in a variety of multimedia programming and developing areas related to the duties assigned * Working knowledge and skills in Authorware * Working knowledge in multimedia CD-ROM production * Working knowledge in web development * Knowledge in instructional design * Effective team leader and team member * Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills * High-level project management capacity and ability to work to deadlines Desired Qualifications: * Working knowledge and skills in authoring programs such as Director, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and audio/video digitization packages * Excellent knowledge and skills in advanced HTML, CGI, Java, and Perl scripts for advance web programming * Knowledge in DVD production * Interest or proficiency in second languages * Experience in graphical design * Experience in developing distributed instructional products * Experience in web-based course development and support Application Requirements: Send letter of application with curriculum vitae, sample works on CD (or WWW), and have two references submit letters of recommendation directly to: Chair, Multimedia Instructional Consultant Search Committee, Language Center, University of Minnesota, 51 Folwell Hall, 9 Pleasant St. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455.
