UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY
VISITING PROFESSOR OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES
The Department of Foreign Languages at the United States Air Force Academy has
an opening for a Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor of Arabic, Chinese,
French, Russian, or Spanish, beginning July 2002. The appointment will be for
one academic year (approximately July 10th 2002 - May 31st 2003), with the
possibility of extending for an additional year. The Air Force Academy, located
in Colorado Springs, CO., is an undergraduate institution, awarding the Bachelor
of Science degree as part of its mission to inspire and develop outstanding
young men and women to become Air Force officers with knowledge, character and
discipline. Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include the
personal attributes of integrity, cooperation, initiative, and breadth of
intellectual interests. Applications are invited from qualified candidates with
a commitment to total undergraduate development in the professional context of
the Academy. Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential for teaching
excellence and sustained intellectual contributions, and will have native/near
native foreign language skills. Preference will be given to those having skills
in more than one foreign language. An earned doctorate in Foreign Language
Education, Linguistics, Area Studies or related field is required. Candidates
MUST currently be directly affiliated with/employed by a college or university
(full time) to qualify as a "Visiting" Professor. Visiting faculty members
will be temporarily assigned to the Federal Government, but will remain
employees of their institution of higher education. They will continue to
receive salary from their home institution, which will be reimbursed by the Air
Force Academy. The move from and back to their home institution will be paid
