In that case, you have to use HTML codes--see Tennessee Bob's link: <http://fmc.utm.edu/~rpeckham/accents.html> So, if you want to type o with a circumflex, using alt+147 will cause a crash, whereas ô will not. Of course, on a Macintosh, there is no problem whatsoever; accents are a breeze, no matter what the program. (I admit to a strong bias here!)
