Colleagues,

        One issue that has arisen as I pull together pieces for Module Six
of the
new IALL lab Design Kit is that of expanding the facility to support other
disciplines besides languages.
        At UCI we did it (years ago), and we experienced both positive and
negative consequences as a result. I know that many others have gone this
route as
well with a grab bag of results. I think, in general, most have been
ultimately fairly positive, but there are common pitfalls that our
experience may be able to help others with
(well that's a convoluted sentence, isn't it?)  I'd like to capture some of
this experience in the chapter.
        If you have made this transition with your facility-- and especially
if you'd like to share your experiences with others contemplating such a
