"strategic planning") process which involves cutting faculty lines and support staffing throughout the institution. In order to continue to be able to offer enough language courses to stay afloat, we are looking at the possibility of using self-tutoring elementary French and Spanish programs that don't require a full-time instructor. Does anyone have experience with programs of this sort? I know some schools use distance learning for elementary languages--but are there any actual computerized self-tutoring programs that can be used locally, for instance, in a language lab? And how does it work? How much teaching time does this type of program require? And finally, what kind of results does one get from using a self- tutoring course? ANY input you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
