I received thirty responses. The results were very interesting, and I presented them at the spring NERALLD meeting. Keeping in mind that this semester a number of schools raised their rates in keeping with new minimum wage laws, the results still provide a comparative snapshot of schools in the US and Canada which is likely to remain relatively the same. For starting pay: Low - $5 High - $8.15 Ave. - $6.03 Mode - $5.15 Median - $5.75 Range - $3.15 Max (after all raises possible) Low - $5. High - $10.84 Ave. - $6.84 Mode - $5.00 Median - $6.80 Range - $5.84 It is interesting that under max. pay rate, the school paying the highest max. rate pays more than twice the rate of the school paying the lowest max. rate. Seventeen schools gave raises solely on time (semester raises), one gave raises on skill acquisition, two on a combination of the two, four did not give raises, and the rest did not reply to this question. If you would like to see the full survey, please e-mail me and I will send the Excel sheet as an attachment to you. Be warned - I name names! (or, at least, schools. But, they can be deleted if anyone requests.)
