>Subject: Re: #5569 Moving a Lab

------------------
We were lucky because Bob Crumley and his wife, who built and installed our
Sony lab, oversaw our move. They disassembled the booths, they were moved by
a Physical Plant crew, then the Crumleys reassembled them and hooked the
cables back up. This meant of course that just moving the lab cost two fees.

The room we were moving to was a bare classroom, so it had to be carpeted
to be suitable. It was shaped differently, so I spent a lot of time figuring
out what we could get into the new lab, and where (we had 85 stations in the
old lab, but only 52 in the new one, plus--a brilliant idea--an extra 5
stations that could be set up on tables if there was need for an extra
headset during a class). We lost the raised dais for the teacher station,
necessitating a high "task stool" chair for the instructor! Another addition
was ceiling-hung TVs replacing TVs on carts, which saves space. The
questions of wiring were indeed important--getting the wiring for the Sony
lab up to need, getting outlets for the TVs, tape duplicators, and other
miscellaneous equipment. One issue we forgot was doors and light
switches--the switches were next to the doors we didn't plan to use. Well,
it's an adventure.

Good luck.
