Toronto, ONT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Dr. Graham Scott, President Sounds Virtual, Inc. 416-968-7155 TORONTO, Ontario, Canada, Jan. 14 - Sounds Virtual, Inc. today announced the call-for-entries for its first annual year 2000 Sounds Virtual Computer Assisted Language Learning Lab Software Grant. Sounds Virtual intends to award to one eligible school or college a 12-station CAN8 VirtuaLab Software package. In response to the success of CAN8 VirtuaLab, Sounds Virtual will provide United States and Canadian public and private schools and colleges with the opportunity to obtain absolute state-of-the-art multimedia software for language learning on a grant basis. The CAN8 VirtuaLab offers the most features and functions of any language learning software available anywhere in the world. Students at computers can now not only listen, respond and compare but read and write which is substantially more comprehensive than the audio only labs. The CAN8 VirtuaLab offers language teachers the ability to develop interactive multimedia lesson materials for use on standard PC computers, online student tracking and management allowing teacher access to completed student lessons' both audio and written for evaluation and grading. CAN8 operates on any network, including the Internet, using standard TCP/IP protocols providing for student and instructor access to interactive language learning lessons from home. Sounds Virtual wants to share some of the success enjoyed by the company. "The acceptance of the CAN8 software by language teachers and laboratory managers has been almost overwhelming," said Graham Scott, President of Sounds Virtual and co-developer of the CAN8 software. "The Sounds Virtual Company and its USA and Canadian dealers want to give back something to the educational community and the grant method seemed the most appropriate. The grant is open to all United States and Canadian public and private state or province certified schools and colleges. Purchase of Sounds Virtual products is not required. Sounds Virtual will announce the grant recipient in May 2000. The grant consists of 12 stations of CAN-8 software providing all the standard functions. The software will be loaded on computer local area network running Microsoft Windows NT v 4.0 or later on a PII Server. The student station computers will be PC/IBM compatible, not Apple or Macintosh, having a minimum of Pentium 166 with Microsoft Windows 95/98. Installation of the CAN8 System on the school owned computers and a file server will be scheduled and paid for by Sounds Virtual using authorized personnel. The grant will not include any costs or reimbursement to the school for preparation or changes to the facility, and/or costs associated with furniture, computer or hardware components and other peripherals. Sounds Virtual will fully support the installed software including teacher training through one of its authorized dealers. The CAN8 Software for language learning provides for traditional lab activities such as listen, respond and compare, student pairing and grouping, teacher monitoring of students lab work and teacher and student two-way communication. The system can also deliver multimedia language learning lessons, video on demand, real time video to selected students, teacher self authoring interactive multimedia lessons and importation of virtual all file formats for audio, video, graphics and text.
