Calling all ‘24s, ‘25s, and ‘26s of Ruckus!

Are you interested in joining a sustainable community on campus this spring
term? Looking for an excuse to make homemade focaccia bread one weekend?
Want to have conversations about sustainability and see what it looks like
on campus? Apply to the Sustainable Living Center (SLC)!

Applications for the upcoming spring term are OPEN and will run until Tuesday,
January 23rd at 2pm. To live in the SLC, you must complete both the general
housing AND the LLC application. All students in their second year or up
are encouraged to apply, though priority is given to students enrolled in
classes (not on an off-term).

The Sustainable Living Center, founded in 2008, provides a home for
students interested in learning about, growing skills in, and taking action
towards sustainability, including topics like environmental justice,
ecological stewardship, food, community building, climate action,
innovation, policy, and more. At the SLC, we welcome both residents who are
new to sustainability and eager to learn more as well as residents with
lots of sustainability experience. Residents bring a wide variety of
interests and backgrounds to the program. We expect all residents to be
passionate, open, willing to participate and learn, and committed to
creating an inclusive, safe living environment.

SLC residents are expected to:

   -

Contribute $600 per term to the co-op fund
   -

To help offset this cost, you are able to be on the off-campus meal
      plan!
      -

Cook 1 Sunday evening house dinner during the term with another house
   member
   -

Commit to attending weekly Sunday evening house dinners
   -

Sign up for 2 house grocery shopping trips to the Hanover Co-op per term
   with another house member
   -

Sign up for 1 week as a Kitchen Manager, to clean after house dinner and
maintain general upkeep of the kitchen space with another house member.
   -

Sign up for 1 house role per term. Example house roles include planting
and managing the SLC garden, organizing social and community building
events for residents, connecting with faculty and driving learning
enrichment of the program, cleaning the kitchen, organizing the living
room, overseeing the house’s compost, creating art, and more!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. We are located
at 2 Choate Rd (next to Shabazz, the Choates, and GDX), so please feel free
to reach out if you want to learn more about the house or stop by to see
what it is all about!

Best,

Evan Barrett ‘24 and Jacob Garland ‘25
