Being Mindful of Race: Talk and Book Signing

Ruth King

Insight Meditation (Vipassana) teacher, leadership consultant, and author of Mindful of Race

Monday, June 25

5:30 pm-7:30 pm

Norwich Congregational Church

15 Church Street

Norwich, VT

In this talk, Ruth King will talk about her new book, Mindful of Race: Transforming Racism from the Inside Out, discussing the Racial Awareness Rubik™, which blends an understanding of mindfulness meditation principles with an exploration of our individual and collective racial conditioning and its systemic proliferation. Her talk emphasizes how being mindful of race supports a culture of care. As she writes in the introduction to Mindful of Race, "Racism is a heart disease. Many of us can live for a while with a heart disease without knowing it, and others of us know we have a heart disease but are afraid or even in denial about it. But racism is a heart disease, and it’s curable! This book points us toward racial harmony and healing."

Ruth King is a teacher in the Insight Meditation (Vipassana) tradition. She is a member of the Teacher’s Council at Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC, and the Spirit Rock Meditation Center, CA, and is the founder of Mindful Members Insight Meditation Community of Charlotte, NC. She is a life coach and leadership consultant, and offers Mindful of Race training to teams and organizations nationwide. She is the author of Healing Rage: Women Making Inner Peace Possible and Mindful of Race: Transforming Racism from the Inside Out, among other works. More info: RuthKing.net
