Each House Community is staffed with an upperclass student who has done well in the foundational classes for Biology, Chemistry, Economics and Math.  They hold residentially-based office hours in a suitable study space (or the House Center, if one exists) once/week for 1.5 hours.  See the schedule, below.  Bring all your course materials and study with others who are also in your class!  Research shows working with others increases retention, expands access to information and boosts one’s motivation to dive more deeply into the subject matter.  Students have reported a more positive learning experience when they work together to master course content.  Plus helping others allows you to know how much you understand the material, which would indicate how much more effort you need to put in to learning the material.

This approach is especially effective for first-year students who are not only adjusting to being at college and the rigorous challenge that entails, but also presenting a prime opportunity to become engaged with other members of their House Community.
