Fall 2014

Center for Perinatal Advocacy at Providence

Washington, DC

The Center for Perinatal Advocacy, an organization within Providence Hospital, aims to support maternal and child health, improve birth outcomes, and decrease infant mortality. At a local level, the organization has implemented programs focused on early intervention and preventative health measures such as initiatives focused on education about the proper installation of car seats, safe sleeping habits for newborns, breastfeeding, and the advancement of prenatal care through the Strong Start program. This intern worked along with the staff to provide one-on-one education through these programs, collected participant feedback to improve the organization, and conducted outreach at health fairs to inform women of these programs.
