In a Manhattan Catholic reformatory in 1914, four teenage girls—Anne, Theresa, Lucy, and Joan—learn about themselves and the world they live in in a hilarious, stunning, and heartbreaking tale about friendship, religion, fantasy, and what it is to be a woman. When the girls jokingly begin to venerate birth control activist Margaret Sanger as a saint, they undergo a profound conversion and start to experience miracles that culminate in a shocking, gut-wrenching realization about their past, their present, and their future.
