Stephanie Pfirman is Hirschorn Professor and co-Chair of Barnard's Department of Environmental Science. She holds a joint appointment with Columbia University where she is a member of the faculties of the Earth Institute and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Adjunct Research Scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. As Chair of the Earth Institute’s Faculty Development Committee, an NSF Advancing Women in the Sciences (ADVANCE) coPI, and past President of the Council of Environmental Deans and Directors, Pfirman has helped to understand and foster the career trajectories of women and interdisciplinary scholars.

The oceans are getting crowded as energy production, aquaculture, and related industries move offshore, increasing competition with traditional uses like shipping and fishing. Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) can help us use ocean space efficiently, but, as Ásgeirsdóttir explains, it can only be sustainable if we recognize its limits.

John Willis, a photographer who splits his energy between his own photography, teaching in colleges and creating collaborative socially based educational community engagement will present on his long time work with Lakota people, creation of the Exposures Cross Cultural Youth Arts Program www.exposuresprogram.org/ and work with the resistance movement against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Come celebrate Green Key at the Dartmouth Organic Farm! Local food from Skinny Pancake, Whippi-dip, Griddle and Groovy and Samosa Man! Come participate in the homebrewed beer tasting and competition and enjoy beers from Hill Farmstead, Norwich Inn, Smuttynose and more(beer for 21+)! Also featuring Citizen Cider and kombucha! BYO container to drink from. Buses leaving from the Hop every 15 minutes.

The summer market are held on Saturdays from 9:00-1:00, May through October at our outdoor location on Route 5, 1.5 miles south of Norwich village. Come support local farmers, eat some delicious food and enjoy live music!

The Sustainability Office is still accepting applications for our Summer 2017 full time O-Farm internship positions! No experience in farming or agriculture necessary! If you are interested in food systems, want to spend a summer outside and immersed in nature and sustainability, this is the internship for you. Dartmouth Bikes is the Sustainability Office’s student run bike program on campus. Dartmouth Bikes strengthens our campus bike culture, enforces the campus bike policy, and keeps student, faculty, and staff bikes happy, moving, and out of the landfill! The Dartmouth Bikes Mechanics drive this program. Specific tasks include working weekly in our Bike Shop to fix customer bikes and refurb abandoned bikes for resale, tagging abandoned bikes on campus and following confiscation procedures, hosting and supporting biking related events, and supporting the existing Dartmouth Bikes rentals programs. We also operate a fully functioning website and email account. These interns play an integral role in reducing bike waste on campus and improving transportation options. Bike mechanic skills required (but we can help teach you!). Approx. 5 hours per week. $10/hr.
