These ideas have been hot topic words that have been floating around campus and hopefully have been on the minds of every student and every organization. In the Dartmouth Outing Club our leadership was be critical considering what
these ideas mean for our club. As club we have been striving to make our organization an open space that is comfortable for from people all around campus and of all identities. While we having been working towards being a truly inclusive community, we know
we are not perfect and want make tangible steps to do better and be the open space that we like to see ourselves as. While the DOC may not be the right group for everyone who know there are people who have tried to become a part of the DOC but have not felt
comfortable, or welcome, or like it is a space that they can be a part of.
Introspection and talks within the DOC have the potential for powerful change, we are calling upon members of the greater Dartmouth community for help. The DOC is forming a committee formed from members of the Outdoor Programs office,
active members of the DOC, and people from all parts of Dartmouth’s campus. The goal of the group is to take a hard look at the DOC and create way to make it a more inclusive space.
You do not have to be a member of any particular community or have any particular identity for your voice to be impactful as a part of this group. Whether you have had previous outdoors experience before Dartmouth or have never had
experience with the DOC or the outdoors we want to hear your voice. If you are passionate about making the DOC and the greater outdoors a space that is inclusive and open to people and would like to be part of this committee, send a blitz to [log in to unmask] with
a brief paragraph about why this matters to you and what you would want to see from the DOC by Wednesday April 20th at Midnight. If you have any previous DOC or outdoors
experience mention it but none is required. Let’s work together to make this campus a better place!
