OFFICIAL: JANUARY GREEK WOMAN OF THE MONTH!!!!!

Huge congratulations to Deidra Nesbeth ’16 of Sigma Delta, our Greek Woman of the Month for January! January’s theme was Wellness, which Deidra promotes through her work with the Student Wellness Centre.

Deidra is passionate about wellness and mental health and channels her energy and talent into work at the Wellness Center as the Thriving Together intern. Her interest in this issue is intensely intertwined with personal experience: as part of her role in campus outreach of wellness issues, she spoke out about her eating disorder at an event for Student Assembly’s “Stop Hiding Start Talking” campaign from fall 2015. An advocate for erasing the stigma surrounding mental illness, Deidra hopes to use her experience to encourage other women to recognize the impact of mental illness, and the importance of reaching out and getting help. When asked about the most important lesson from her work in the Wellness Center, Deidra says, “Being there to listen is incredibly important to letting others feel comfortable to talk about mental illness.” Her interest and expertise in the area of mental health has also manifested in her academic concentration in psychology and involvement in the mental health subcommittee of the Paleopitus Society. As a side note, Deidra recommends that you check out the awesome massage chair at the Dartmouth Wellness Centre!

Mental health is a vital issue for students from all parts of Dartmouth’s campus. Congratulations again to Deidra, the Greek Woman of the Month for January, for her hard work in this area!

The Dartmouth Wellness Center is an incredible resource for Dartmouth students and is located on the third floor of Robo. You can get in touch with them via their website directory: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~healthed/contact/index.html
