THE ONLY VIABLE FUTURE: A GREENER FOOD SYSTEM AND A MORE EQUITABLE PLANET, 4:30-6PM, Kemeny 008
This Sustainability Solutions Café features Ricardo Salvador, senior scientist and Director of the Food and Environment Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists.  Transitioning from our current food system to one that produces healthy food, requires sustainable and socially equitable practices. Dr. Salvador works to answer questions regarding these changes.  How do we get the most out of our farmland while preserving the integrity of the soil, water, and ecosystem?  How can we make healthier food more affordable and available to communities?

GROWING CHANGE, 8pm, Collis 212 
Come learn more about how they teach 4th graders at the nearby Dothan Brook School about gardening, farming, sustainable food, and healthy eating. We also maintain a garden and apple orchard at the school.

Interested in discussing international environmental issues? Come check out the Dartmouth Council on Climate Change and help plan some awesome events for the term!

DARTMOUTH HUMANITARIAN ENGINEERING, 8pm, Thayer MB01 

DHE runs a wide range of technical projects in developing nations, including small-scale hydropower, improved cookstoves, and an initiative aimed at improving access to clean water. They strive to encourage development, improve health, and reduce environmental impact through sustainable, affordable, socially-conscious solutions for communities in need.

SYMBIOTIC SYSTEMS FOR THE FUTURE OF ENERGY, WATER, & FOOD, 3:30-5pm, Spanos Auditorium
Alexander H. Slocum will be speaking about the opportunity for a symbiotic relationship between energy systems and food production, and how it  can decrease costs and encourage the development of low carbon technologies as part of the Thayer School’s Visionaries in Technology Distinguished Speaker Series.
