Come join the Pan Asian Council this week with Asians in the Media and Raising Consciousness

Asians in the Media

Tuesdays @ 8 PM in Robo 104 (PAC room)

Each week PAC will screen a different film or documentary that challenges the stagnant Hollywood perceptions of Asian Americans. Following the viewing there will be a brief discussion.

This Tuesday 1/20 - Who Killed Vincent Chin?

Vincent Jen Chin was a Chinese American severely beaten in the enclave of Highland Park in Michigan state, leading to his death in June 1982.

The perpetrators were Chrysler plant superintendent Ronald Ebens and his stepson, Michael Nitz. The lenient sentencing of these two men in a plea bargain generated public outrage over the murder attack.

Ebens and Nitz initially faced a charge of second degree murder, but were convicted in a county court for manslaughter. They were sentenced to three years of probation.

Raising Consciousness

Wednesday @ 6:00 PM in Paganucci Lounge

Weekly discussions will revolve around topics pertinent to Asian American students at Dartmouth and the world at large. These discussions will aim to develop the critical lens through which students view current affairs.

“Remember that consciousness is power. Consciousness is education and knowledge. Consciousness is becoming aware. It is the perfect vehicle for students. Consciousness-raising is pertinent for power, and be sure that power will not be abusively used, but used for building trust and goodwill domestically and internationally. Tomorrow’s world is yours to build.” - Yuri Kochiyama
