Film Events This Week:

Mon May 26, 11am-3pm: Asian American Research Symposium (Haldeman 041) Gavin Huang '14 will present his honors project, a 20-minute documentary titled Freedom Swimmers about his uncle's immigration story of swimming from Mainland China to Hong Kong and immigrating to the United States as a political refugee. The film will screen at 1 pm as part of the Asian American Research Symposium.

Mon May 26, 6-7pm: Dartmouth Film Society Meeting (Wilson 205) The Dartmouth Film Society is a student organization that meets once a week to discuss the films playing at the Hopkins Center, debate important issues (like whether Ghostbusters is the best film of all time), write program notes, critique new movie trailers and vote on series proposals for future terms. You don’t have to be an expert - you just have to have an opinion!

Mon May 26, 7-8pm: Music Video Monday (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Teams will compete to guess what the music video for a song would (should?) be. Bring a team of friends! Pizza included.

Thurs May 29, 7pm: Premiere Screening of Paradisus (Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, Free Admission) Rena Sapon-White '14 will present her senior fellowship feature film Paradisus: The Thousandth Year about Polish-Jewish identity in Poland today. After the screening, there will be a Q&A with director/editor Rena Sapon-White and the film's cinematographer Guillermo Rojas. Before the screening, at 6 pm, there will be a reception.

Thurs May 29, 9pm: Pre-Screening of The Union (Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, Free Admission) Jeremy Thibodeau '14 will present his feature film The Union. A bartender working at a wedding reception finds himself way more involved in the dysfunctional family’s underlying problems than he would like. As the night progresses, alcohol brings these underlying problems to the surface. The Union is a clever depiction of family values, both comical and tragic.

Fri May 30, 7pm: Student Film Showcase (Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, Free Admission) The Department of Film and Media Studies presents a series of short films created by students during the 2013-2014 academic year.
