*Film* *Events** This **Week**:*

*Mon May 26, 11am-3pm: Asian American Research Symposium *(Haldeman 041)
Gavin Huang '14 will present his honors project, a 20-minute documentary
titled *Freedom Swimmers* about his uncle's immigration story of swimming
from Mainland China to Hong Kong and immigrating to the United States as a
political refugee. The film will screen at 1 pm as part of the Asian
American Research

*Mon May 26, 6-7pm: **Dartmouth Film Society Meeting *(Wilson 205) The
Dartmouth Film Society is a student organization that meets once a week to
discuss the films playing at the Hopkins Center, debate important issues
(like whether *Ghostbusters *is the best film of all time), write program
notes, critique new movie trailers and vote on series proposals for future
terms. You don’t have to be an expert - you just have to have an opinion!

*Mon May 26, 7-8pm: Music Video Monday* (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual
Arts Center) Teams will compete to guess what the music video for a song
would (should?) be. Bring a team of friends! Pizza included.

*Thurs May 29, 7pm: Premiere **Screening of Paradisus *(Loew Auditorium,
Black Family Visual Arts Center, Free Admission) Rena Sapon-White '14 will
present her senior fellowship feature film *Paradisus: The Thousandth
Year *about
Polish-Jewish identity in Poland today. After the screening, there will be
a Q&A with director/editor Rena Sapon-White and the film's cinematographer
Guillermo Rojas. Before the screening, at 6 pm, there will be a reception.

*Thurs May 29, 9pm: Pre-Screening of The Union *(Loew Auditorium, Black
Family Visual Arts Center, Free Admission) Jeremy Thibodeau '14 will
present his feature film *The Union*. A bartender working at a wedding
reception finds himself way more involved in the dysfunctional family’s
underlying problems than he would like. As the night progresses, alcohol
brings these underlying problems to the surface. *The Union* is a clever
depiction of family values, both comical and tragic.

*Fri May 30, 7pm: Student Film Showcase* (Loew Auditorium, Black Family
Visual Arts Center, Free Admission) The Department of Film and Media
Studies presents a series of short films created by students during the
2013-2014 academic year.
