Film Events This Week:

Mon Apr 14, 6-7pm: Dartmouth Film Society Meeting (Wilson 205) The Dartmouth Film Society is a student organization that meets once a week to discuss the films playing at the Hopkins Center, debate important issues (like whether Ghostbusters is the best film of all time), write program notes, critique new movie trailers and vote on series proposals for future terms. You don’t have to be an expert—you just have to have an opinion!

Mon Apr 14, 7-8pm: Music Video Monday (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Teams will compete to guess what the music video for a song would (should?) be. Bring a team of friends! Pizza included.

Tues Apr 15, 1-2pm: Illustrator Workshop: Using Image Trace (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Learn how to use Illustrator to trace photographs and other artwork to create your own versions of originals. Space is limited, so email [log in to unmask] to sign up.

Thurs Apr 17, 6-8pm: Call Me Kuchu Screening and Panel Discussion (Filene Auditorium, Moore Hall) Call Me Kuchu is an award-winning 2012 American documentary directed by Malika Zouhali-Worrall and Katherine Fairfax Wright. The film explores the struggles of the LGBT community in Uganda, focusing in part on the 2011 murder of LGBT activist David Kato. A panel discussion will follow the screening. Panelists include Victor Mukasa, a Ugandan transgender activist; Judith Adong, an acclaimed Ugandan playwright and filmmaker; Jeff Sharlet, Assistant Professor of English at Dartmouth who has written about the American roots of Uganda’s anti-gay persecutions; and Melissa Minor Peters, whose dissertation is the only ethnography to date that focuses on LGBT people in Uganda. The panel will be moderated by Dartmouth Theater professor Laura Edmondson, whose work focuses on human rights, trauma and performance in East Africa.

Thurs Apr 17, 4-5:30pm: Non-Fiction Videomaking Workshop (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Learn about making short non-fiction videos - we'll be going over the practical and technical aspects of video making and touring the resources available on campus. Fri Apr 18, 7pm: Interdisciplinary Poet and Sound Artist LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs (Bentley Theater, Hopkins Center) Diggs is an interdisciplinary poet and sound artist, combining digitally manipulated sound, spoken word, vocal improvisation and video in her performance. Using multiple languages, vernaculars, and code-switching, Diggs's work is an experimental investigation into language and the voice that makes hybrid and intertwining linguistic and cultural spaces visible. This event is sponsored by the Theater Department's VOICES program. Diggs will be reading excerpts from her 2013 poetry collection, TwERK (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/bio/latasha-n-diggs).
