Weekly Digest of Film Events and Opportunities

Film Events This Week:

Mon Apr 7, 6-7pm: Dartmouth Film Society Meeting (Wilson 205) The Dartmouth Film Society is a student organization that meets once a week to discuss the films playing at the Hopkins Center, debate important issues (like whether Ghostbusters is the best film of all time), write program notes, critique new movie trailers and vote on series proposals for future terms. You don’t have to be an expert—you just have to have an opinion!

Mon Apr 7, 7-9:45pm: Cine Salon (Lost Films Found): 1812 (Mayer Room, Howe Library) 1812 is a stunning audiovisual reworking of the classic 1967 Russian film War and Peace by Sergey Bondarchuk. The original spectacle, perhaps the most elaborate and expensive film ever made, provides the jumping off point for artist Carlos Casas's immersive exploration of Tolstoy's novel. The result is an experimental collage masterpiece of epic proportions.

Mon Apr 7, 7-8pm: Music Video Monday (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Teams will compete to guess what the music video for a song would (should?) be. Bring a team of friends! Pizza included.

Tues Apr 8, 1-2pm: Intro to After Effects (Part II): Working in 3 Dimensions (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Learn how to use After Effects, a powerful motion graphics, compositing, and animation software program. Space is limited, so email [log in to unmask] to sign up.
