Film Events This Week:

Mon Feb 3, 6pm: Dartmouth Film Society Meeting (Wilson 205) The Dartmouth Film Society is a student organization that meets once a week to discuss the films playing at the Hopkins Center, debate important issues (like whether Ghostbusters is the best film of all time), write program notes, critique new movie trailers and vote on series proposals for future terms. You don’t have to be an expert—you just have to have an opinion!

Mon Feb 3, 7-8pm: Music Video Monday (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Teams will compete to guess what the music video for a song would (should?) be. Bring a team of friends! Pizza included.

Mon Feb 3, 8-9:30pm: DCCS Movie Night (Dartmouth Hall 105) The Dartmouth Chinese Culture Society will be screening Shanghai Calling (2012), a romantic comedy about American consultants living in China.

Tues Feb 4, 4-5:30pm: Mini-Documentary Workshop (Part 2) (Digital Lab, Black Family Visual Arts Center) Learn about making short non-fiction videos - we'll be going over the practical and technical aspects of video making and touring the resources available on campus. Wed Feb 5, 5:30-7pm: Russian Department Film Series - The Third Rome: A History of Moscow Pictured in Film (Rockefeller 003) The Russian Department will be screening The Adventures of Mr. West in the Land of the Bolsheviks (1924), a satire by Soviet director Lev Kuleshov challenging American stereotypes about Soviet Russia.

1. Temple University MFA Program: The Film and Media Arts program at Temple University has expanded its graduate offerings in cinematic arts, screenwriting, media arts and documentary, including launching new certificate programs (Documentary and Ethnography), collaborations with Theater, and collaborations with art programs. 2. Seeking Wedding Videographer: My name is Megan Bourbeau. My fiancé and I are getting married in late September this year in southern New Hampshire and we are looking for a videographer for our wedding. We are looking for upperclassmen with experience in video, video editing, and working an important event for 7+ hours. It is important that they have their own equipment for that day, understand the time table of a wedding, and are able to edit the footage into a valuable keepsake for us. 3. Dartmouth Food Truck Seeking Videographers: We are a team at Tuck planning to launch a food truck on Dartmouth’s campus this spring. Ahead of our launch, we are hoping to put together a promotional/educational video about the truck and looking for an undergrad to help us with that. We already have about a dozen undergrads working with us on other aspects of the truck, and we would like to reach out to see if any students might be interested in helping with this. 4. The Ivy Film Festival (IFF) is now accepting student short film, documentary, television pilot and screenplay submissions. Since its founding in 2001, IFF has become the largest student-run film festival in the world. This is a festival for students, run by students. IFF offers a unique opportunity for student filmmakers to screen their work, network with other filmmakers, and meet industry professionals. It also provides a quality venue for filmmakers to garner recognition from our panel of industry judges and to learn from industry professionals, including directors, actors, writers, producers, studio executives, and agents. The upcoming festival on April 14-20, 2014 will be hosted on the campus of Brown University. Films may be submitted online at www.withoutabox.com or via mail. 5. Portsmouth Short Film Night Seeking Submissions: Portsmouth Short Film Night is a free event for filmmakers to screen their work. We are looking for submissions for the event on Friday, February 28 at PPMtv, 280 Marcy Street, Portsmouth, NH and looking to showcase the work of those in New England. We are looking for shorts of any genre (or un-genre) from independent filmmakers interested in screening their film to an audience. To submit, go to http://psfn.filmunbound.com/submissions/. 6. Actuality Media coordinates summer programs for current students and recent graduates interested in video, journalism, new media, social entrepreneurship or telling stories that matter. In each program, students travel to a developing international community in Asia, Africa, or Latin America, and learn how to produce a short documentary film about a social entrepreneur, nonprofit organization or other changemaker working there. The program is now accepting applications for the 2014 documentary outreaches, heading to Ecuador, Kenya and Cambodia. 7. VOICE 4 Girls Media Seeking Interns (more information in attached Word doc): VOICE 4 Girls is a social enterprise that enables marginalized adolescent girls in India to take charge of their futures by imparting critical knowledge, spoken English, and life skills through activity-based camps. VOICE is seeking a Media Development Intern to help create educational training videos. VOICE’s expansion is made possible through multi-media material such as training videos, which allow us to train large numbers of counselors for camp. This internship would focus on creating impactful videos for counselors and campers to enhance the quality of camps. VOICE internships will be available during Summer, Spring, and Fall Terms. The VOICE office is based in Hyderabad, India. Internship funding is available through the Dickey Center: http://dickey.dartmouth.edu/co-curricular/internships. If you are trying to get an internship that requires school credit, talk to career services. They have a work-around that involves enrolling in a local college for a term and getting credit there.
