3) Take a Break:  Sunday night Taizé services: 5-5:30 in Rollins Chapel

The Sunday night Taizé service in Rollins Chapel is a wonderful way to experience inner stillness and peace in the midst of so much outer activity. This 30 minute candlelit service is patterned after the prayer from the Taizé community in France and has space for silence, scripture, meditation and simple singing (accompanied by incredibly talented student musicians).  For more information, talk to Nancy Vogele at Tucker.

This week’s theme is: Don’t Worry, Have Peace!

5) SEAD Applications are OUT!

Applications for the Spring are due Mon. Oct. 21st at 9 am.

The Summer Enrichment at Dartmouth (SEAD) program is a multi-year college enrichment program that empowers promising high school students from under-resourced backgrounds to thrive in high school and college, and provides undergraduates with transformative opportunities for service and leadership.
For its high school scholars, SEAD offers summer programs, interns during the academic year, and reunion weekends at Dartmouth. We are currently seeking to fill SEAD internship positions for the Spring 2014 term. The SEAD Internship gives you the opportunity to support SEAD students in their high schools. SEAD interns work both with SEAD students and other students at SEAD partner schools to promote educational success and college access.
***SEAD interns are given free housing, a living stipend and program funds to organize activities for SEAD students.***

7) Social Justice and Song: A lunch-time conversation with Rara M de NY

October 10th at Noon-1pm Tucker Foundation Living Room
Join members of Hatian music band Rara M de NY in a conversation about the linkage between their music and social justice. Rara M de NY plays a modernized version of the traditional genre of Haitian music called Rara. The parent band, Rara M, was originally from Bel Air, Port-au-Prince. Several members of Rara M were in Miami for a performance when the earthquake struck in January 2010. They were granted Temporary Protective Status following the earthquake and have remained in the States since, settling in Brooklyn, NY. An extremely talented group of artists, Rara M de NY reflects the profound demographic shifts caused by the earthquake and also attests to the power of music to revitalize and articulate a Haitian transnational community. Please take a look at the 2013 video to get a feel for this group's vibrant and socially engaged repertoire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-t64h9BqOQ

8) 2014 Washington D.C. Faith in Action Alternative Spring Break

A truly wonderful experience that brings together students from a variety of religious and moral traditions to explore the issues of youth and homelessness.   You'll be working with various community agencies to learn more about these issues and to provide much needed service AND developing meaningful relationships that will help you develop your sense of what it means to serve the community in the context of a life of faith.  Students from all religious and moral traditions are encouraged to apply!

Go to www.dartmouth.edu/~tucker/service/trips/asb.html for the application (DUE Monday, Oct 7, 11:59PM!) and contact either of the 2014 Trip Leaders- Kassaundra Amann '16 or Madeleine Parker '14 - for more information.
