Green Fish Concert: Owen Chapman

This week's Green Fish concert will feature sonic artist, Owen Chapman. Owen will perform a short electronic music set featuring of variety of esoteric sound generating technologies linked to his current research-creation projects and DJ performance practice. These will include the Martenot Claviharp, the Hammond Novachord, the Ondes Martenot, Native Instruments Micro-Maschine, an assortment of Robert Moog designed audio effects, a Technics 1200 turntable, a Rane TTMSL57 mixer and Serato Scratch Live.

Bio:
Owen Chapman is an audio artist whose work involves sample-based music, mobile phones and old electronic instruments. He is co-director of the Montreal wing of the Mobile Media Lab, located in the Communication Studies department at Concordia University, where he is also an Associate Professor in Sound Production and Scholarship. His written works have appeared in Organised Sound, M/C Journal, Esse and The Canadian Journal of Communication. His creative work has been commissioned internationally for video, contemporary dance, solo performance and site-specific installation. His research-creation projects have been funded by the Canada Council, the Quebec Fonds de recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Current projects include “Audio-Mobile” - a locative audio field recording app for mobile devices, and “Echoscape” - an experimental 3D environment providing users with an immersive experience to explore, sample and remix user-generated, geo-located sound recordings.
