Free Public Documentary Screening:
"After I Pick the Fruit: The Lives of Migrant Women"

Wednesday, Feb. 20th - 7:00 PM to 9:30PM in the Loew Theater, The Black Family Visual Arts Center

Join us in viewing this timely and important film that humanizes the national debate on immigration through the vital perspective of women migrant laborers.

Director, Nancy Ghertner, will introduce the film and be available for Q&A following the screening.

After I Pick the Fruit follows the lives of five immigrant farmworker women over a ten-year period as they labor in the apple orchards and fields of rural western New York, migrate seasonally to Florida, raise their families, and try to hide from the Bush-era immigration raids that were conducted in response to 9/11. Filmed in New York, Florida, and Mexico, this intimate, bittersweet, feature-length film illuminates a community that is nearly invisible to most Americans, and will change the way you look at our national ‘immigration problem.”

Promote a Love of Reading!

Chances are, part of the reason you are at Dartmouth is because you loved reading and learning at an early age.Want to help promote this love of reading in children? To do this, we need to solve a couple challenges for many children: 1) access to books and 2) having someone who can read to them (especially before they can read themselves!) and show them how exciting and fun it can be.

Interested in helping out? We are forming a team to establish a two-pronged effort on this front: regular book drives and reading/literacy events where children can come and read and be read to by volunteers (and get free books for coming to the event!).
