Application for Executive Board membership

 

The Dartmouth Society of Biological Sciences is an organization dedicated to stimulating undergraduate interest in the life sciences, promoting the appreciation of research and scholarship relevant to biological sciences, and fostering the development of relationships between students and Department Faculty through seminars, informal dinners and gatherings. If you are interested in being part of the Executive Board, we invite you to apply for a position. DEADLINE: JANUARY 17th by midnight.

 

Please answer the following questions thoroughly but succinctly, limiting your responses to two pages.

1.              Describe your interest in the Society of Biological Sciences.  Why do you wish to pursue a leadership role?

 

2.              What has been the extent of your involvement with the Society?  What, if

any, ideas do you have for change and improvement?

 

3.              How many hours per week are you able or willing to dedicate to the Society of Biological Sciences? Please explain any limiting factors, such as sports, other organizations, etc.

 

4.              We are looking for students who can commit long term. In other words, we are seeking students who will be able to carry on this organization throughout the rest of their Dartmouth career. Is this organization something you see yourself being dedicated to until you graduate?

 

5.              Responsibility, initiative, and commitment are essential attributes that we seek in new leaders.  What can you draw from your past experiences that would demonstrate these qualities? 

 

6.              Do you plan to be a Biology major?  Are you interested in a particular biological field (ex. Ecology, Genetics)?

 

7.              If you have done or are doing research, either on campus or off, please comment on your experience(s) (who are you doing research with, where, subject/topic, what you learned, etc.).
