Interested? Here is some more info:

The new barn is going to be a gorgeous building, built overlooking the
Connecticut River. It will be timber-framed, a traditional building
technique in which the structure is made of heavy timbers carefully slotted
and pegged together, assembled on the ground, and then raised into place.

Building a barn traditionally takes a whole community. We are getting help
from professionals and modern equipment, but it will still take many hands
to make this happen!

Therefore, we are calling ALL members of the Dartmouth community to create
a lasting piece of the college landscape together.

The bulk of the work will take place between Friday, October 19 and Sunday,
November 4.

Anyone can come out for a 2-3 hour shift during this time and lend a hand.
We will be providing rides out to the farm. Blitz [log in to unmask] if
you can come work with us occasionally, and we will keep you in the loop.

If you want to be more involved, sign up to be a Work Crew leader! The Work
Crew leaders are volunteers who will be the heart and soul of the barn
raising –managing teams of student volunteers who will help stain siding,
make doors, cut treds for stairs, and cut and nail up siding. Work Crew
leaders will learn the basics of timberframing. Work Crew leaders will
meet during September with Timberhomes LLC, the company building the new
building, Environmental Health & Safety, Farm Manager Scott Stokoe, and the
Sustainability Office to develop a work plan for the barn raising. The
majority of work hours will take place between October 19th and November
4th. All Crew leaders must be able to attend a mandatory safety training on
friday, October 19th. To sign up, talk to us in Collis or blitz thefarm.

Once the barn is raised, we will all celebrate the new place our work has
made.

Want to volunteer, ask questions, or express enthusiasm? Blitz
[log in to unmask] I look forward to building a barn with you.*
