Hello members of the Class of 2015, and others choosing to rush a fraternity this weekend. I am writing to provide you with some important information about the rush process, which will begin on Saturday, September 29. Rush will take place from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday night.

First Night: Rush starts at 7:00pm. You are encouraged to go to as many houses as you are interested in, ideally no fewer than three. You are expected to wear respectable attire (i.e khakis + coat and tie) and to be sober. At each house you choose to go to, you will sign in, and may or may not have your photo taken. Signing in at a house simply makes you eligible to receive a bid or a call-back, it is not binding in any way. Food will be provided, and you are encouraged to meet as many brothers at the houses as possible.

SHAKEOUT: At 8:50pm, shakeout lines will start to form. Shaking out at a house is a binding decision. You should only shake out if you are 100% certain that the house is your #1 choice, as you will be fully expected to accept a bid should you receive one that night. If you decide you want to shake out, make sure to be at your house of choice to get in line no later than 9:00pm, at which time doors will be locked.

First Round Decisions: After shakeout, houses will enter deliberations. All students who signed in at a particular house are eligible to receive a bid regardless of whether or not you shook out. If you receive a bid, but did not shake out, you are under no obligation to accept it.

If you do not receive a bid on the first night, there are two alternatives: 1) no-bid, in which case you are not invited to return to the house on Sunday night and will not be able to join the house, or 2) call-back, in which case you are invited to return on Sunday night for further conversations with brothers and may receive a bid during the second round of deliberations. You will receive information regarding your individual decision any time from Saturday night to Sunday mid-day, depending on the house.

Second Night: The second night of rush will start at 7:00pm. You may go to houses even if you did not sign in on the first night. Call-backs are particularly encouraged to make an effort to go back to the houses who called them back. If you shook out the night before and received a bid, you are not eligible to participate.

Final Decisions: There is no shakeout on Sunday night. Houses will lock their doors promptly at 9:00pm and enter final deliberations. Bids and no-bids will be communicated as soon as possible that night.

I wish all of you the best of luck in the rush process. Feel free to reach out to rush chairmen or the IFC if you have outstanding questions regarding rush.

Best,

Cole Adams
